This article was written by a foodie salaryman who has been working away from home in Hiroshima for two years, and is aimed at people who want to travel to Hiroshima and enjoy Hiroshima cuisine.
My honest impression of Hiroshima is that there are a lot of really delicious things to eat.
Looking back on his two years living in Hiroshima, he will introduce a carefully selected list of memorable
and highly recommended Hiroshima cuisine.
If you ever go to Hiroshima, please use this as a reference. Highly recommended.
7 Recommended Hiroshima Gourmet
Ueno’s “Anagomeshi”
It’s right in front of JR Miyajimaguchi Station, the gateway to Miyajima. If you’re visiting Itsukushima Shrine, be sure to stop by.
It’s a popular restaurant that has lines even outside of meal times.
At the restaurant, you can enjoy hot and juicy grilled conger eel and rice in a bowl. It also goes great with white-grilled conger eel and local sake (Kamozuru). Highly recommended.
It’s also delicious as a bento (2,160 yen). The meat is firm and the flavor permeates the rice, so the bento is also recommended.
Musashi’s bento “Young Chicken Rice Ball”
You can buy it at Hiroshima Station. Please buy it before boarding the Shinkansen. The seaweed and salt are the best for this rice ball.
I recommend the “Young Chicken Rice Ball” (880 yen).
・Two handmade triangular rice balls
・Deep-fried young chicken with a strong flavor
・Served with edamame, sausages, pickled radish, cabbage, and fruit
Hiroshima-yaki (Icchan, Denkousekka)
When you think of Hiroshima, you think of Hiroshima-yaki.
There are so many Hiroshima okonomiyaki restaurants in Hiroshima, and I always looked forward to finding a new one.
Otafuku Okonomiyaki Sauce is the best.
Among them, these two are unforgettable.
◆Icchan Main Branch (Higashi Ward, 10 minutes walk from the Shinkansen Exit)
◆Denkousekka (I often went to the Higashi-Senda branch)
Featured in the Michelin Hiroshima guide, the fluffy and chewy okonomiyaki is delicious.
You can also find your favorite flavor and restaurant here.
・Okonomiyaki Monogatari Ekimae Hiroba on the 6th floor of Hiroshima Full Focus Building in front of Hiroshima Station
・Okonomiyaki Mura and Okonomiyaki Republic in Shintenchi
・Inside Hiroshima Station ASSE
Kuremenya’s Kure Reimen
Inside Hiroshima City, Kuremenya is the place to eat delicious Kure Reimen.
They also have stores on the car road that runs from Hiroshima Station to Zoom-Zoom Stadium, in downtown Hiroshima, and in Nagarekawa.
The deluxe Special Kure Reimen is highly recommended. It’s very filling, with crisp vegetables and all the toppings. It comes with a large serving of char siu, boiled egg, wonton, shrimp, green onion, and cucumber.

Nakachan’s Uni Cress
Uni Cress is a hot topic in Hiroshima.
The delicacy “uni” and the richly flavored and fragrant vegetable “cress” are stir-fried in butter and soy sauce and served with a baguette.
Be sure to order from Nakachan in Nagarekawa.
The shop has a food stall-like appearance and atmosphere, and the food, including beef tongue and okonomiyaki, is delicious.
Sake, Seikyou (dry Junmai, cold)
Hiroshima has really good sake.
The Kamozuru that Prime Minister Abe served to President Obama and the Seikyou that I happened to drink at a soba restaurant were both delicious.
There are many sake breweries in Higashihiroshima.
Sanukiya’s Stamina Udon
A thick, piping hot soup. Be careful not to get burned.
It’s delicious with lots of ingredients like pork, shrimp, carrots, and wood ear mushrooms.
The secret is the sliced garlic. I often ate this on Fridays or when I was feeling unwell!
